FAQ
Why the name of the organization is not Dutch?
As any ‘parents’ have freedom to choose the name of their child, we used the same approach
when we came up with the name of our non-for-profit. Although the ‘child’ Futurum Nobis
was ‘born’ in South-East of Amsterdam, its background is rather international, thus giving
Dutch name wasn’t an option, we thought.
What does Futurum Nobis mean?
The name has Latin origin (like many European names). It means ‘The future is ours’, also
possible to translate as ‘our future’.
How do you ensure your projects are community-driven?
We start from ideas with potential impact for Zuidoost and develop them together with
local residents and organizations. Through community conversations and co-creation
sessions, each project becomes a new shared experience and learning process for our
foundation and everyone involved.
What kind of projects do you organize?
We work on a variety of projects and ideas in Zuidoost Amsterdam, focusing on community-
connection programs, women’s and youth empowerment, and soft skills development. Our
Innovation HUB is a special project that connects innovative and creative initiatives and
businesses into one powerful network in Zuidoost. Each of our projects contributes to
building an inclusive, resilient and competitive community.
–> For more details, please refer to our [Projects page].
What is the long-term vision of Futurum Nobis?
Our goal is to build a strong, inclusive, competitive and sustainable Zuidoost district, where
every person is valued, connected, and empowered to shape their community. We aim to
inspire local leadership, strengthen social bonds, and support long-term community
wellbeing.
Can I become a volunteer and be part of your team?
The answer is ‘YES’! We want to build a strong and united community in South-East of
Amsterdam (as a starting point) and certainly we can’t do it alone! Thus, you are always
welcome to join our super-friendly team! Just send us a message and we get back to you
asap.
Do you offer internships or student opportunities?
Absolutely! Students from various fields: social sciences, arts, technology, sustainability,
communication, etc. can apply for internships. And you are free to come with your own
project or idea; we will try to co-create it with you and provide you with the best support
we can! Gain experience while making a real impact!
As an organization in South-East of Amsterdam, how can we get your assistance and is it free of charge?
All you need to do is to get in touch with us and yes, it’s free of charge for organizations in
South-East of Amsterdam, as this is our core location.
Why is the domain address .EU, not .NL?
The issues we address and aim to tackle are not ‘local’ but rather ‘global’. Having .EU
domain instead of .NL domain gives us more opportunities to bring the awareness to
broader audience, not only to the audience based in The Netherlands.
Why the main website is in English, not in Dutch?
The Netherlands is known for being diverse and ‘expats-friendly’, majority of the Dutch
population also speaks English. As the issues we address and want to tackle are not only
applicable for Dutch-speaking population, we decided to start the website in English.
However, you are always welcome to write in Dutch, if it feels more comfortable to you, and
we will reply to you also in Dutch
.
Why is your legal address outside of South-East area?
It may sound silly, but the reality is we were not able to find affordable prices for office rent
in South-East district of Amsterdam. Thus, as a young foundation, we run on the money of
its members (do bootstrapping) and at this moment we go for the cheapest rental option. At
the same time, we are always nearby should you be willing to meet our team in person.
